Design Intervention - Modern/Contemporary Design and Architecture

Hi there, glad you found me! This is the first post of a new blog I’m calling Design Intervention. Quite a clever name, I think. I owe it to my little white dog named Charlie. I have been thinking about doing a new blog as an extension of my own personal blog, Random Meanderings, for a while now. I’m a bit of a design and architecture geek, and I often post pictures and links to design related items there on my personal blog, mixed in with the other inanity and tom foolery that resides there. So, for people who are looking for that kind of thing, they would have to wade through other stuff they may find to be, shall we say, uninteresting. By doing this, I am in no way putting myself out there as any kind of authority on the subject, but rather, an sincere admirer from afar.

I subscribe to a lot of design-related feeds and receive a deluge of wonderful images, project pictures, products, and designs every day that I find worthy of noting. I started out thinking about doing an “aggregation” blog for these things, putting many products and projects in one place for lots of people to see, and I even reserved a domain name that pertained to that concept. (It’s a good thing domain names are pretty cheap!)

Then at 2:30 in the morning, Charlie jumped up on my bed, landed on my feet, and startled the bejeebus outta me. Since my heart was now pumping all the way up through my eyeballs, and I was awake for a while, my mind turned to this little project, and out of the blue (or maybe out of the dark of the night) the name Design Intervention popped into my mind. BRILLIANT, I thought to myself as I was falling back asleep, making note to remember that name until the morning.

So, I reserved the domain you see above, did a quick header design, and here we are. I hope to be able to post about three times per week here, and I hope you will find the designs and images here as thought-provoking and inspiring as I do. I don’t particularly intend to opine in any specific direction (or if I do offer an opinion, it should be viewed as exactly that - my opinion), and I plan to make the posts as diverse a possible, offering looks at great modern and contemporary designs from across many fields, from great industrial design in technology, all the way through to thought-provoking modern architecture. In each instance I will try to provide a link to more information on the product or designer, and I hope you’ll visit their sites to see more. Who knows, you may develop a new designer crush!
